Hillsborough High School Rowing Club
Scholarship Program

Hillsborough High School Rowing Club is not funded by the Hillsborough County School System or by Hillsborough High School and therefore the club must operate 100% on club dues and donated funds.  Rowing is an expensive sport and currently requires a considerable family financial commitment.

The HHSRC Board of Directors has created a Scholarship Committee for the purpose of offering rowing scholarships to anyone who applies and meets the requirements.

This program is designed to allow a few students a year to participate in the sport of rowing as if it were a school sanctioned sport.  This can only happen if funds are made available to sponsor students who otherwise would not be able to meet the financial obligations.  Funds are raised through special fundraisers and generous
donations by existing crew families, extended families and alumni.

Scholarships are for one school year (Fall and Spring Seasons).  Only a few positions can be granted each year based on available funds which vary year to year.

Students can apply for the scholarship by filling out a scholarship application form (Form being updated.  Link coming soon) and showing up on the first week of practice and handing the application to the Head Coach.  In the event that more students apply than there are available positions, the Head Coach and the Scholarship Committee will award the positions to the most qualified candidates.  Scholarship awards will be determined after the first week of practice.

To see the practice schedule, you need to sign up for a website account (see top menu) that will unlock other menu items.

Details for scholarships (number and costs covered) to be awarded in the 2016-2017 school year are currently being developed by the scholarship committee.

To be considered for the scholarship, the student must:

  • Attend Hillsborough High School
  • Be eligible to participate in high school athletics at Hillsborough High School
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Must attend 80% of all practices
  • Must attend 90% of all regattas
  • Must pass the basic swim test
  • Must prove financial hardship (reduced meal approval documentation by SDHC)

Scholarship Application Form can be found here.
